Cont’d Rwanda Part 3

skulls everywhere

In Kigali I wanted to visit the genocide memorials, which I did. One million people died in Rwanda in just 100 days April to July 1994- this is impossible to envisage as that is ten thousand people a day. There is one large and modern memorial in town which has mass graves containing 258 000 people. There are two others close to town. These two are Ntarama and Nyamata and both are Churches where the people were supposed to be safe but where massacres of thousands of Tutsis took place. The first is set amongst banana plantations and locals draw water outside. As you walk in the door there is a frame containing 1000’s of skulls and femurs.

they lie in rows and rows
